How the Ampersand program works, what deposit insurance does and does not cover, and the terms behind the figures on this site.
01
Ampersand is not a bank
Ampersand, Inc. is not a bank or depository institution. Ampersand acts as administrator for clients in placing deposits at FDIC- or NCUA-insured banks or credit unions within the Ampersand partner network. Applicable deposit insurance is provided by those institutions, subject to standard limits, aggregation rules, and regulatory requirements, including conditions for pass-through coverage.
Ampersand, Inc. is not an FDIC/NCUA insured bank/credit union and deposit insurance covers the failure of an insured bank/credit union. Additionally, certain conditions must be satisfied for pass-through deposit insurance coverage to apply.
Ampersand does not hold deposits, issue loans, or provide deposit insurance. Funds are placed at FDIC- or NCUA-insured partner institutions. Federal deposit protection is provided by the U.S. government through the FDIC or NCUA, not by Ampersand.
02
Deposit insurance & coverage
Coverage in excess of the standard insurance limit at a single institution is achieved by allocating funds across multiple insured institutions. Total available coverage depends on the number of participating institutions, account ownership, and satisfaction of regulatory requirements.
Coverage amounts above standard limits are achieved by allocating funds across multiple institutions and are not guaranteed. References to coverage of up to $100M are subject to program terms, the number of participating institutions available at the time of placement, and the depositor’s existing deposits at those institutions.
Funds are broken up into whatever increments are necessary to seek each client’s rate and coverage objectives. Amounts placed at each institution vary and may be less than $250,000. Any $250,000 figures in illustrations, examples, calculators or animations on this site are shown for simplicity only and are not indicative of how any account will actually be allocated.
Depositors are responsible for monitoring deposits they hold at participating institutions outside of the Ampersand program, which may be aggregated with program deposits for insurance purposes. Clients may request that specific institutions be excluded from allocation.
The FDIC insures deposits up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each account ownership category; the NCUA insures credit union deposits on the same basis. All deposits held at the same institution in the same ownership category are added together for this limit. Amounts above the limit are uninsured: if a bank fails, uninsured depositors generally receive a receivership certificate and may recover some, all, or none of the uninsured amount over time, depending on recoveries from the failed bank’s assets.
For additional information about FDIC insurance coverage, visit www.fdic.gov or estimate coverage with the FDIC’s Electronic Deposit Insurance Estimator (EDIE) at edie.fdic.gov. For information about NCUA share insurance, visit www.ncua.gov.

Rates, earnings & calculators
Rates, terms, program features, participating institutions, and access to funds may change and are not guaranteed. Rates available through the Ampersand program are provided by participating financial institutions within the Ampersand partner network and may differ from national averages due to factors including deposit size, product structure, term, and market conditions.
Rates and earnings shown are for illustrative purposes only and are not guaranteed. This calculator does not constitute an offer to accept deposits or a commitment to provide any specific rate. Estimated earnings are hypothetical and may not reflect actual results. Past performance is not indicative of future results, and individual results may vary.
National average comparisons are based on publicly available FDIC national average rates for similar deposit products (Source: fdic.gov/national-rates-and-rate-caps). The FDIC national savings rate was 0.39% as of October 6, 2025. Statements that program rates have averaged 5–9x the national average compare the FDIC national average savings rate with rates provided by participating institutions as of 10/15/2026; averages are not a guarantee of any individual client’s rate.
Interest earned may be held in your Ampersand high-yield account or, at your election, sent to your operating bank, subject to program terms and processing times.
04
Certificates of deposit (CDs)
CDs are issued by participating FDIC- or NCUA-insured institutions, not by Ampersand. References to some of the most competitive CD rates nationwide compare per-bank CD rates offered by participating institutions with publicly available national CD rate data, as of 09/19/2026. CD rates vary by term, deposit size, market conditions and institution availability, and are not guaranteed.
A placement fee applies to CDs and is charged at maturity, subject to a signed agreement with Ampersand. See your agreement for fee details. CDs are subject to the terms of the issuing institution, which may include early withdrawal penalties; funds in a CD may not be available until maturity. CD balances count toward the standard insurance limit together with any other deposits held in the same ownership capacity at the same institution.
05
Liquidity & access to funds
Access to funds may depend on program terms and bank processing times. Term (CD) allocations may be subject to early-withdrawal terms set by the issuing institution.
If a partner institution fails, federal deposit protection applies according to standard FDIC or NCUA rules. Timing of payment of insured funds is determined by the FDIC or NCUA.
